After Savanna we flew west to Tswalu Reserve located on the edge of the southern Kalahari dessert. It is the largest individual private reserve in South Africa at 460 square miles.

Decades ago I went to Kenya on a safari. Rather than the lux safaris of today, it was an overland camping trip. Showers were in a tent with a hanging bucket and we enjoyed incredible meals cooked on an open fire.

After Tanda Tula, we flew Federal Air to the Savanna Lodge concession in the Sabi Sands Nature Reserve. With its wide-open plains, Sabi Sands was a great complement to Timbavati.
